He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1975, the Padma Bhushan in 2001, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2013 on the occasion of the 64th Republic Day of India. He is a pioneer in this field, with the persona of a prodigy. The young boy feared going to school and dropped out of class III, but never feared hammering the chisel over a stone to create magnificent sculptures.
The master left us to his heavenly abode in 2021, but his mastery is a crowning legacy to all of us.

Shilpiguru Pravakar Maharana was born into a family of artisans, but his strong passion for drawing and painting led him to explore the world of sculpting deities with devotion. For his artistic excellence and devotion to preserving the dying art of stone sculpture, he was awarded Padma Shri 2018. His weathered hands can make stones alive with history, heritage, and humanity.
To maintain the legacy of Odisha in sculpting stones, he is training young hands to remind the world that true art transcends time.
